Location: Downtown Covington, Virginia
Employment Type: Seasonal Internship (Part-Time, 35 hours/week, 10 weeks – May–August 2026)

Olde Town Covington, Inc. is a Virginia Main Street nonprofit organization committed to revitalizing and promoting downtown Covington through community events, business support, design improvements, and partnerships that strengthen the Alleghany Highlands.
Position Summary:
The Summer Intern will assist Olde Town Covington, Inc. staff and volunteers in planning, promoting, and executing community development and revitalization initiatives during the busy summer season. This internship provides hands-on experience in nonprofit management, event planning, marketing, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities:

Event Support: Assist with organizing signature events, such as markets, festivals, and family-friendly downtown gatherings. Duties would include marketing support, volunteer scheduling, and on-site event assistance.

Marketing & Communications: Create and schedule social media posts, draft press releases, design flyers, and contribute to newsletters and community outreach campaigns.

Business & Community Outreach: Support local business engagement by helping with surveys, communications, and special promotions.

Research & Data Collection: Gather community feedback, track attendance at events, and assist with reporting requirements for grants and partners.

Design & Beautification Projects: Provide hands-on assistance with initiatives such as the Alley Gallery, downtown beautification, and small-scale improvement projects that enhance the appearance and vitality of our Historic Downtown.

Administrative Support: Provide general office assistance, including record-keeping, volunteer coordination, and project support.
Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a college or university program (preferred fields: business, communications, nonprofit management, marketing, public administration, or related areas).

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Organized, detail-oriented, and reliable.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media platforms; experience with Canva or other design tools is a plus.

Interest in community development, downtown revitalization, or nonprofit leadership.

Dates: May–August 2026 (flexible start and end dates), 10 weeks during the 2026 summer months

Hours: Up to 35 hours per week (some evenings and weekends required for events)
